Art holds endless possibilities for engaging students in meaningful learning. We hope you will use the Santa Barbara Museum of Art as a resource for enhancing your lesson plans and your students' lives. All school programs are free and busing to the SBMA is also free. Elementary School Visitors-- Classroom Presentation and Museum Tour
October 6, 2009 - June 3, 2010
Tuesdays through Fridays
In-class PowerPoint at 9 am & 10 am
Museum tours at 11 am & 12 noon

This two-part program begins with a PowerPoint presentation given in your classroom, followed by a field trip to the Museum for a lesson in the galleries.


 
 

2nd through 4th Grade
Artful Thinking
Lessons are interactive and engage students in active viewing and dynamic discussions, as well as emphasizing links with the California State content standards.

5th Grade
American Art
Students will have the opportunity to look at art representing the history and culture of The Americas.

6th Grade
The Ancient World
Students explore the cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, China, and India.

Special Exhibition Tours
Tours for  Noble Tombs at Mawangdui and California Calling are available at 11 am and 12 pm on the following 2009 dates:
September 25, 29 and 30
October 16, 23,27,28,29,30
November 20
December 18 (California Calling only)

Figurines of Musicians, Western Han dynasty (206 BCE – 25 CE), wood with pigments. Noble Tombs at Mawang­dui: Art and Life in the Changsha Kingdom, Third Century BCE to First Century CE is organized by the China Institute Gallery in collaboration with the Hunan Provincial Museum, and is curated by Chen Jianming, Director of the Hunan Provincial Museum.
